Office Assistant (Temporary)

Position Summary: Halton Down Syndrome Association (HDSA) is a growing, non-profit organization working to improve the quality of life for people with Down syndrome. HDSA’s goal is to see people with Down syndrome become responsible, self-sufficient, fully integrated members of the community, who are accepted by their peers, and who are able to lead happy, productive lives. 

The HDSA Assistant is an important member of the HDSA team, supporting staff, the Board of Directors and volunteers in a collaborative team environment.

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week

Hourly Rate: $16.55

Period of Work: 8 weeks (Starting May 6th to July 1st)

Requirements:

This job has been made possible by Canada Summer Jobs. To be eligible for this position, applicants must:

  • Be between the ages of 15 and 30 years of age on the start date of the job

  • Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident or a refugee under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act

  • Be legally entitled to work according to relevant provincial legislations and regulations

  • Have reliable transportation to very occasionally get to events or some tasks. (Mileage reimbursement offered)

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Assist with administrative support to the HDSA Charity Administrator

  • Prepare and mail thank you letters

  • Assist with fundraising activities and events

  • Assist with HDSA’s social media community 

  • Assist with creating digital and print flyers and marketing materials on Canva

  • Assist with website updating on Square Space

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Strong administrative and organizational skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, especially with the public

  • Strong computer/technology skills and excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, social media and creating digital media presentations

  • Ability to take direction well, receive and provide constructive feedback, and respond quickly and productively to changes in the environment, or priorities

  • Occasionally attend in person events and tasks when required. Specifically The Halton Walk for Down Syndrome on Saturday June 8th in Milton

  • Ability to sometimes work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends when required

  • Understanding of Down syndrome is an asset
