Welcome to the HDSA Community Shred Event 2010 Information Page

The Halton Down Syndrome Association and Shred-it have teamed up to host the second annual HDSA Community Shred® Event. This event is an opportunity for people in the

Oakville-Burlington area to have their unwanted but sensitive documents professionally destroyed while at the same time supporting a worthy cause.

The event will take place on Saturday, May 15th from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the Dorval Crossing West Shopping Centre (Dorval and QEW), 300 North Service Rd W, Oakville, in the parking lot between Metro and Tim Horton’s.

Consumer fraud and identity theft are becoming an epidemic in our communities. To raise awareness and to promote prevention, Shred-it organizes Community Shred® Events, to offer paper shredding services for residents.

With tax season over and spring cleaning season in full swing, individuals may find that they have piles of unwanted documents that contain sensitive information. We urge consumers to bring any documents with their name, address, account numbers or other personal information to be destroyed.

These are the documents you should consider shredding:

  • Bank, Credit Card and Investment Account Statements.
  • Cancelled checks.
  • Credit Card Solicitations.
  • Address lists, (e.g. child's class list, groups to which you belong).
  • Utility and other bills.
  • Anything with your name, address, or other personal information

All materials collected at the event will be properly destroyed onsite and recycled which helps to keep our community safe and also protects the environment.

Reduce the risk of identity theft and maintain your document security. Have your confidential information, personal files and household records destroyed for a suggested donation of $5 for each bag and $10 for each box of material shredded. A tax receipt will be issued for donations of $20 or more. Along with your receipt, you will receive a coupon for a great discount on your next meal at Lick’s Homeburgers & Ice Cream.
